Your Customer, The Internet Surfer

Marketing on the internet is different to conventional marketing.    The users of the internet are used to a free for all medium of information and do not like being manipulated.    The internet surfer also revels in the freedom to move from site to site.    So... to get their attention, you have to suit their emotions of need and/or want.

People dislike being sold anything, but they love to buy.    So help other people get what they want.    Let your customer determine what is important to them, how they want to feel about something.    Let them relate to what you have to offer.

 

Being Beneficial

The internet user can be fickle, but they will stay with your site as long as they are interested.    They come and go with a click of a mouse.    However, when someone is interested in what you have to offer, it may take them five to seven visits before they purchase or join your offer.

You must at least read the terms and conditions of any business program, however, these can be changed on a whim by the administrator of the program.    Check out the special offers and bonuses and utilize what you can.    You can really benefit from the business programs.    

Some programs are actually made up from a bundle of other programs, when combined they make a fantastic application and/or service.    Look at the task ahead of joining all those programs as a challenge which you can meet.

When Joining A Program

Follow the directions of the particular program.

Fill out the pertinent information in the "Application" form.    Printout a hard copy of the form before submitting it, (for your records).

If a cost is involved, fill out the necessary monetary transaction form.    Printout a hard copy of the form before submitting it, (for your records).

Acknowledge any confirmation request type emails.    Printout a hard copy of your account details, such as URL's etc.    Store any confirmation emails to a file.

Sometimes you may join a bundled type program which requires you to join other programs within it's structure.    Follow the above procedure for each program.

You may join two bundled type programs, ie: ABC Promotions and XYZ Marketing.    Now you may find that both of these programs require you to join a particular program, ie: Web Biz Incorp.

Always check out the Terms and Conditions of any program that you are joining.    Most programs only allow one person per household to join.    That is, you can only join once.

If you joined "Web Biz Incorp." through "ABC Promotions", then you will be associated to the up line of ABC Promotions for Web Biz Incorp, (always, no matter what).    For who you join under you are associated with.

Once you have obtained the Referral URL for "Web Biz Incorp.",ie:

You will need to place the respective information into both of the programs, ABC Promotions and XYZ Marketing.

Note:
You have only joined once, you are using a common Referral URL for both programs.    This the correct way to do it.

The bundled type programs have a menu area where you can insert your Referral URL / ID information.    Some programs will request you to type in the full Referral URL:

Most programs will request a USER ID, that is usually the "myname" part of the above URL's.    "myname" represents the name that you chose to join a particular program or it could be a code that the particular program chose for you.    Just insert their requirements into the box provided for the particular program.    The rest is done automatically for you.    It is that easy.

 

Becoming Active

The free to join programs are a great way to attract someone to your promotional site.    They allow you to get a feel for the business and they do offer some great benefits.    However, if you are serious about making money with your business, it is best to upgrade and have a closer association with the business.

So, join one or more businesses for free, try them out, evaluate them.    When you find something of interest, go for it and upgrade to maximize your income. 

Keep records of what programs you are involved in.    Print out basic information about the product/program and store it in a folder.    It is beneficial to copy any associated "URL" of your program and store them in a file on your PC.    Also, construct a file in either a word document or spread sheet and record your respective URL's.

Note:
Have a backup copy of whatever you save to your hard disk drive.    Back up everything associated with your business.    If your hard disk crashes, you can easily resurrect it from the back up disks.

 

A Method Of Keeping Records

Record Keeping lays the foundations of your business.    Build your business on good foundations and practices.    Keep yourself and your business in good order and you will succeed.

Hard Copy:    Keep hard copy of program particulars in a folder (arch lever and manila type folders are good).    Maintain a folder for an aspect of the business, i.e.: Traffic Generation Programs.    Place the pertinent information of a particular program in a plastic sheet protector and stow it in the folder.

The pertinent information would include a copy your signup information, (done before submitting), and a copy of any immediate verification.    If the signup form does not have any program identification on it, then print out the main page of your referral site. 

Also, include any verification email received, especially with URL's.    Any other important program information received over time could be kept in the folder as well, especially any major changes.    

An aspect of your business, such as: Traffic Generation Programs, can consist of various sub categories, i.e.: Banners, Click Exchanges, Click To Surf, Click Thru's, Exit Exchanges, Start Pages, etc.    You can use Dividers to separate these categories.    This will make it easy for you to find a particular aspect of your business, especially if you stow them in alphabetical order.

Keep payment details for taxation records.    In fact, keep all records of monetary transactions in the cause of your business.    You can keep your records of monies received and expenditure in portable Tax File Case.

PC:    Keep copies of URL's associated with the program that you have joined in both folders in your internet application page, (ie: Internet Explorer) and in a word processor document.    As you join more and more programs you will appreciate this method of record keeping.    You can also keep relative information about the programs that you join in a spread sheet.

Internet:    Your internet application page, (ie: Internet Explorer), will allow you to store web site information, i.e.: URL's.    With Internet Explorer under "Favourites" you can store information in folders.

You can open a new folder for an aspect of the business, i.e.: Traffic Generation Programs.    Under this folder open new folders for the various sub categories, i.e.: Banners, Click Exchanges, Click To Surf, Click Thru's, Exit Exchanges, Start Page Click Exchangers (SPCE), etc.    This will make it easier for you to access your various affiliated web sites.

As you join new programs and receive verification emails etc., with your new URL information, you can then add the URL's of the program to their respective folder.    Do the same thing for all the other programs that you join.    You can then use this information to activate and utilize the respective program whenever you want to.  

With Start Page Click Exchangers, (SPCE), place the "Start Page" URL's of 5 programs to a folder.    The first program in each folder should have a hit counter.    This allows you to open 5 windows simultaneously and activate each program in succession for a count of 20 activations.

Done on a daily basis for about 45 minutes a day, these 100 viewings will help to stimulate traffic towards any targeted marketing site.    As you join more SPCE programs, open more folders, ie: SPCE 1-5, SPCE 6-10, SPCE 11-15, SPCE 16-20, SPCE 21-25, etc.    You can then rotate through each folder on a daily basis.

Word Processor:    Open a new document and give it a name, i.e.: Business URL's.    Have a title such as Traffic Generation Programs.    Under this title you can place the program name and relative URL's, i.e.:

Using this style of record keeping is beneficial.    You can copy any respective URL from this document and paste it as required into any advertisement and/or program.    It will save you time and effort.

Spread Sheet:    Open a new document and give it a name, i.e.: Business Program Selection.    You can construct your titles to cross reference your respective programs.

Your titles can include: Program Type, Program Name, Cross Reference programs (i.e.: MPAM, Big Dogs, etc.), Entry (Free or Paid), Joined (Free or Paid), Joined Date, Program Association (regularly on web site, in newsletter, etc).    This form of record keeping is great, because at a glance you can see at what stage you are at.

Record keeping may seem laborious, but it is an essential part of maintaining your business.    At first it may seem like a curse, but in time as you progress, you will appreciate the benefits.

Lay a good foundation for your business, have a good record system.

 

Being Committed

To be successful with any business, you have to develop a relationship of integrity with your prospective customer.    You must have something that they want and fulfill their desire.    You must be prepared to coach and support those that you sponsor into the respective business programs.    

Help is only click and/or e-mail away.    And you have to be prepared to give in order to receive.    Give your time and patience, you will be enriched in time. 

The good business opportunities are not get rich quick schemes.    The amount of money that you make depends upon the effort you put into promoting your business and the support you give to those that join under you in the respective business venture.

It may take six months, one year, or two years to develop a real income, it all depends upon you and how determined you are to succeed.    It is best to allow two years depending upon your commitment.    Better to be safe than sorry. 

 

Being Motivated

Business opportunities are for those who are motivated to succeed.    You will have to work at your business.   But, it is at your own time and pace.    You can work at these business opportunities on either a part time or full time basis.    It is all up to you.

You will have to set "Goals" in order to succeed.    Goals are what you want to achieve in order to become successful.    Make sure that your goals are SMART, i.e.: Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic and Timed.    Plan your time and money.    Make a timetable and/or schedule of things to do.    Work to your plan.

You can plan to have Schedules on a daily basis for Submissions, Promotion requirements, E-mailing/Postings, etc.    A spread sheet is good for this.    Your "Schedule" can consist of titles for program name and days of the month with tick boxes, ie:

Setting up your business is the most time consuming part.    Read through the programs.    Learn their strategies.    Understand the compensation plans and policies.    If you do not understand something, ask.    These programs offer support and so does your respective sponsor.

 

SPAMMING

The biggest concern with internet marketing is SPAMMING, that is the sending of unsolicited emails.

If you receive commercial e-mail from an unknown source on numerous occasions and this e-mailed information was neither requested or expected, then it is SPAM.    It is Unsolicited Commercial Electronic (UCE) mail.

Note:
If you join, affiliate or associate with a particular program or site on the Internet, you will receive emails from the owner, administrator, sponsor and/or other program associates.    Emails sent in this case ARE NOT CONSIDERED TO BE SPAM.    These are Transactional or Relationship message type emails which are sent under the conditions specified by the particular program.

If you send a commercial email to someone whom you do not know personally, have no affiliation and/or association with and has not requested it.    You are SPAMMING.    If you SPAM intentionally and/or consistently, and your ISP receives a complaint, they will rightly or wrongly shut you down.

You will either be inconvenienced, loose your business and/or membership and possibly be fined/sued for damages caused to others and/or face imprisonment.   You see, your spamming can close down the business entity that you are either affiliated or associated with.    And they may try and recoup their losses.    Don't SPAM, it is now against the law.

Government Authorities around the world are now taking action and starting to enact legislation intended to regulate or reduce unsolicited commercial electronic mail.

The Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled, has enacted an act to regulate interstate commerce by imposing limitations and penalties on the transmission of unsolicited commercial electronic mail via the Internet.    

This Act may be cited as the `Controlling the Assault of Non-Solicited Pornography and Marketing Act of 2003', or the `CAN-SPAM Act of 2003'.    For a full explanation of this act, please refer to this site: CAN-SPAM Act of 2003.

Fundamentally it is now unlawful to:

bulletHarvest email addresses to build a mailing list for any commercial application.
bulletHave a commercial electronic mail message, or a transactional or relationship message contain, or be accompanied by, header information that is materially false or materially misleading.
bulletHave a subject heading of a message that would be likely to mislead a recipient, acting reasonably under the circumstances, about a material fact regarding the contents or subject matter of the message.
bulletTo initiate any commercial electronic mail message that does not contain a functioning return electronic mail address or other Internet-based mechanism, clearly and conspicuously displayed.
bulletTo initiate any commercial electronic mail message that does not provide a clear and conspicuous:
bulletReply electronic mail message or other form of Internet-based communication requesting not to receive future commercial electronic mail messages.
bulletAnd is not capable of receiving such messages or communications for no less than 30 days after the transmission of the original message.
bulletTo initiate any commercial electronic mail message that does not have a valid physical postal address of the sender.
bulletNot to honour a request, using a mechanism provided, not to receive some or any commercial electronic mail messages from the sender.

The above statement is not a comment of the law nor does it cover the complete act.    It is just meant to give insight to "What Not To Do" when sending commercial type email messages.

If you SPAM, you could find yourself in a legal wrangle over it and you could loose your business, be fined and/or face imprisonment.    Don't SPAM, it is now against the law.

 

E-Mail and Promoting

You can use free advertising to promote your business, but it is tedious and the results are slow and minimal.    However, you have to start somewhere and it is good training.    When advertising, never use your primary email address.    Use a secondary disposable email site like Yahoo.     You may need 10 or more of these email accounts for advertising purposes.

Hotmail is not recommended due to excessive filtering which causes e-mail messages to bounce.

When posting advertisements to free sites, you will receive SPAM type E-Mail.    Some people collect these types of email and put them in a special mailing list to promote their own wares.    My advise is to treat everyone in a polite and courteous manner and delete them.

Never use "URL's" of specific programs with E-Mail advertising.    Have your prospects respond to you via a "Back-End" site or another email address.    You can also use Tracking or Redirectional URL's instead.

Due to the problems associated with SPAMMING, many program administrators will cancel your membership if you are found out to be using your associated referral URL in your email advertising.

Some businesses do not like you mentioning the business program directly even by name.    Always read the Terms and Conditions as well as the SPAMMING Rules of any program that you join.

Email is the most common form of promotion on the internet.    But, be aware of "SPAMMING".    It is best to use reliable "Safe Lists" or create your own Mailing List.    The people who join these programs do expect to get e-mails, especially from you.

You can also associate yourself with a lead generating site or A Free For All Site (FFA) and set up an auto responder with your advertising message.    People using these facilities also expect to receive e-mails.    Also, be cautious about using your referral URL within these types of programs.

However, with most forms of e-mail promotions, the success rate is between 0.1% to 0.3%.    But persistence does pay off.

The Power Of The Written Word

Most affiliate type programs require three people to join under you to nullify your monthly joining fee.    So, to get your three people you might think that you only need to send out at least 3,000 emails a month, due to the 0.1% success rate.

But, people are fickle and there is competition out there.    You really need to send 5,000 e-mails a day to start with.    There are free to join and paid programs available, to help you with your promotional requirements.

Many of the business programs on offer have training hints and courses.    They will even give you examples of "Sales Letters" to use.    It is not that hard really.    Just copy and paste.    Then, adjust to suit.

The following examples will help you with words that motivate and stimulates the reader into action.    The written word can be very powerful.    What gets your attention?

Promoting your business takes time at first, this is mainly due to the time taken to create your sales letter.    You may need several of them depending on the sales medium that you use.    Some advertising mediums want sales letters between 100 to 150 characters, others between 200 and 250 characters, while Yahoo! allows 1,950 characters.

Some advertising mediums allow you to post one or several ads at a time.    Some allow you to post "x" number of ads daily, while others allow once every week.    Most free advertising mediums are only effective for three days.

You should repost your ads every three days on these mediums.    Yahoo! allows you to post 10 free classified ads per email account held, this can take about one hour of your time.

It is best to open a new word document for Advertising and type your advertisement to suite the posting conditions.    You can entitle your advertisement for "Program X" for "X" amount of characters.    This way you can use the same Ad format for different programs, (it will save you typing).    

You can construct numerous eye catching headings for your advertisement.    Which can be changed according to your feelings.    Remember, it is the "Heading" or "Subject" which catches the attention of your prospect.   

Keep the "Heading" or "Subject" short and to the point, keep it within 60 characters in length.    Where possible, personalize it, include the person's name.    It can be written as if making an announcement, making the reader curious and/or by emphasizing how the reader will benefit by what you are offering.

Your main advertisement format will contain good classified ad ingredients that will obtain - Attention, Interest, Desire, Action (AIDA).    It will also contain your contact information.

Also, be cautious about using your referral URL within these types of advertising programs.    Where necessary substitute your referral URL with either a Tracking URL or a Redirectional URL.

Always write your article in the third person sense.    Don't use "I"; utilize "You".    Don't write about how you, (yourself), can do things for people.    Write about how people can benefit by utilizing what you have to offer.    Use intrigue, but do not lie.    Use some of the Hot Words and Phrases above to arouse their curiosity enough to look at your promotion.

Using a word document to record your advertisement is extremely beneficial and time saving.    You can change the text format when required.    Copy and pasting your advertisement to Ad Sites is a blessing.

 

Formatting Your E-Mail Advertisement

Presentation is very important in any form of advertising.    Spelling is critical.    Use a "Spell Checker" to rid yourself obvious spelling mistakes.    Also, have someone else proof read your article for mistakes in phasing and overall appearance.

It is best to rough type your advertisement in a word document using a fixed-width font like Courier, 10 Font.    Also, keep your paragraphs 4 to 5 lines in length.    Make 5 lines the maximum, any longer makes it hard to read and can frustrate the reader.    

But, don't just place this finished article in an email program and send it out.    A word document using Courier 10 Font can allow 69 characters per line before word wrapping occurs, (that is your text goes to the next line).

Have you ever seen an email looking like this:

This distortion is caused by not allowing for the correct number of characters per line for a particular email program.    The line width of most email programs can vary between 64 to 132 characters.

Most gurus of letter design will tell you to allow 60 to 66 characters per line when formatting your article.    That is "Hard Return", (hit the "Return" key) before your word exceeds either 60 or 66 characters per line length.    You must have a "Hard Return" on every line.    

You can solve this problem of distortion by:

(a) Setting up the Word Document:

bulletYou can set your page up as follows in Microsoft Word:
bulletIn Page Setup you can select Letter paper size with the Left  Margin set to 1.7" and the Right Margin set to 1.8",  utilizing the Normal Courier 10 font.
bulletIn Page Setup you can select Legal paper size with the Left  Margin set to 1.7" and the Right Margin set to 1.8",  utilizing the Normal Courier 10 font.  
bulletIn Page Setup you can select A4 paper size with the Left  Margin set to 1.6" and the Right Margin set to 1.7",  utilizing the Normal Courier 10 font.

(b) "Composing" in Yahoo.    
bullet Yahoo allows you to adjust your "Screen Width" when "Composing".
bulletYou can set your screen width between 50 and 99 characters for word wrapping, (Yahoo automatically sets it at 55).
bulletGo to "Options" in Yahoo.    
bullet Select "Personalization".    
bullet Then select "Mail Preferences".
bulletIn "Screen Width Composing" select 60.

Now you have set both your Word Document and Yahoo to word wrap at 60 characters per line.

To overcome distortion with email accounts, get yourself a Yahoo Email Account and use it in "Compose" mode to format your article.    Copy your word document and paste into "Compose" message.    Now, if distortion is evident, click anywhere on the line above the line of distorted text.    

Hit the "End" key, (cursor goes to the end of line).    Hit "Back Arrow" key, (text draws together).    Hit the "Return" key, (this inserts a "Hard Return" at the end of the line of text).    The "drawn" text then drops down and starts the beginning of the next line.    Hit the "End" key again and repeat the process until finished.

If there are wide gaps between the text on a line, you can use the "Delete" key to bring the text to the correct position.

When you have finished composing your article in Yahoo to your satisfaction, "Highlight" the whole article, copy it, then paste back over your original word document.    Redo any Hyperlinks and e-mail addresses, then save the amended document for future posting.

You can make the Hyperlinks active by placing your cursor at the end of the link and hit the "Return" key.    The link colour will become highlighted.    Then, hit the "Delete" key to bring the following text to the correct position.    

You can now test the new format by pasting the document into a non-Yahoo e-mail account and send it back to the Yahoo account.    Read and check the email for any errors or distortion.

If corrections need to be made, copy the received e-mail and paste it into the "Compose" message in the Yahoo account and repeat the above process until satisfied.    You will now have a nicely formatted article suitable for posting to 99.9% of the different e-mail accounts on the Internet.

To make money, you will have to spend some money, but spend it wisely on promoting your business.    Get the maximum result for the minimal cost.    It is a matter of R.O.I., Return On Investment.    

You can build a great advertising machine for free.    However, you will have to use some adventure capital to establish your business with lead generation programs.    

You can start out with a US$10 per month program and build it up with other programs totaling US$60 to US$150 per month as quick as you can, (you need to contact at least 5,000 leads/day to start with).    You can then add selected marketing programs, as you can afford it up till about US$420 odd per month, (this will give you about 20,000 plus leads/day on average).
